This busy dairy factory near Invercargill wanted to protect their staff from product movements both inside the main storage area and outside the plant where heavy transport frequently moves around, posing a risk to all pedestrians on site. Hazardous vehicles range from fully-laden pallet trolleys, to motorised forklifts and large road trucks, any one of which could cause serious damage or death to an unsuspecting staff member on foot. The warehouse layout also includes an exposed office area, centrally located in the middle of the storeroom traffic zone, where data is recorded and barcode work is carried out. This is a red-hot hazard area, where staff are wide open to the dangerous movements going on around them. Our recommendation was to install full pedestrian safety zones where office staff would be able to walk safely on foot, protected by 910-2 Certified Safety Barrier and pedestrian gates leading to all heavy traffic zones. For the unprotected office area, we suggested a fully enclosed protection zone with the same barrier configuration, so anyone working on the computers and label printers were well guarded from passing forklifts and other vehicles. Our client is thrilled with the results and now has peace of mind that they’ve covered all pedestrians on site with a well-engineered traffic management plan.
