Long runs of Tru-Gard™ Barrier protect the building structure of this supermarket distribution centre.
This complex, known as the Christchurch Regional Distribution Centre, was built from an existing Countdown Distribution Centre that was significantly affected by the September 2010 earthquake. It consists of a 22,000 sqm warehouse and a 7,000 sqm receiving and dispatching canopy. The $20 million construction and fit-out programme for the building extension was completed in June 2012, after which the dispatch canopy was built, and at that time the site managers made a specific request to add Tru-Gard™ protection.
Because the centre supplies approximately 7,800 product lines to more than 68 Countdown, Super Value and Fresh Choice stores across the South Island, there is a significant amount of heavy transport trucks and other working vehicles moving around the site at any given time. As a result, the probability of accidental collision with the dispatch canopy is often very high.
Our solution was to protect the structure with Tru-Gard™ Certified Safety Barrier configuration 610-2, which comprises of 610mmH support posts fixed to the concrete groundwork with heavy-duty screw bolts and with two lines of barrier rails attached across the entire run.
This barrier system has been providing first-class protection at this site for several years now, guarding against everything from minor grazes to larger knocks.
