It’s hard enough being a Warriors fan… without worrying about getting run over on the way to a game!
Mount Smart Stadium, the home of NRL team New Zealand Warriors, is a busy ground with thousands of fans arriving on foot for rugby league matches and various other sporting occasions, as well as concerts and large scale entertainment events. Stadium management approached us this year to install Tru-Gard™ Certified Safety Bollards around the perimeter of the grounds to keep pedestrians safe from traffic and prevent vehicles parking too close to the gates or stadium walls. Despite some vehicle access being required at times, the Operations Manager made it clear that nothing larger than a golf cart is ever permitted inside the main entrance areas, therefore access dimensions should be limited accordingly.
Our solution involved a mixture of solid-fixed safety bollards and removeable bollards set apart the necessary width to keep vehicle access to a minimum, but to allow a wider approach in exceptional circumstances, in case of accident and emergency, or if any unforeseen earthworks or repairs are required in future. Any or all removeable bollards can be dismantled at any time with the simple detachment of a padlock.
While standard fixed-to-the ground bollards are permanently in place, the hinged access plate allows more flexible use for removeable bollards. The galvanised steel flap will lie flat to the ground when the bollard is not in place, allowing traffic to pass over it easily as required. These bollards are also designed with a useful handle on the side, so when they are removed, they can be easily carried away for storage.
This was a great Health and Safety initiative by the Stadium Management. Now everyone can rest easy and get on with the more important job of cheering on the team!
